Second edition – November 2026
Polish Queer History Monthu is an initiative of our Museum, born in 2025 out of a collaboration with Kultura Równości in Wrocław. By designating November as the time when we especially celebrate our past, we wanted to highlight how important it is to remember our queer heritage. Together, we want to recall and celebrate our presence in the history of our cities, regions and country!
This year we were invited to join the International Committee on LGBTQ+ History Months, an organisation that brings together similar initiatives from around the world. The first such observance was launched in 1994 by Rodney Wilson, a history teacher from Missouri. Today, Queer History Months are celebrated in 25 countries and regions.

Help us build an oral queerstory archive
This year we are collecting stories that matter to our community and saving them from being forgotten, focusing in particular on the era of the Polish People’s Republic (PRL) and the Rainbow Night.
Recording oral history – recording our queerstory – is an attempt to hold on to memories that are fleeting, fading, and sometimes still hidden. Without our commitment and our work, these memories will be lost. Please remember that you don’t have to record only public figures or community activists. It is just as important (and sometimes more so) to record an older person – this year we especially want to focus on seniors – telling us about their long life, or a young person discovering their identity.
There are no right or wrong topics for a recording: you can ask about memories from 50 years ago just as well as about feelings around current events.
We have prepared a special guide (in Polish) to help you conduct interviews. We hope it will become a useful tool in your archival work.
We warmly invite all organisations and groups to take part in the second edition of Polish Queer History Month, and we encourage you to organise your own initiatives as part of the Month. We will share all initiatives taking place during the Month on the QueerMuzeum website – let’s create it together!
